Jack Petchey's "Speak Out" Challenge! 2009/2010

Winners of the "Speak Out" Challenge! 2009 were honoured at the House of Lords on 20 October 2009 in the presence of Mr Jack Petchey himself.

At the ceremony Baroness Hayman, first female speaker of the House of Lords, opened the floor to runner-up Yinka Ogunbiyi, Helen Chamberlain (3rd) and Benedict Townsend, who eloquently expressed their thanks and shared their experiences of participating in the Challenge!

Reporting the story from a young person's perspective was 14 year old journalist Kamil Boriel from Headliners, a UK media agency which encourages the personal development of young people through journalism. "I had a great day. It was a fantastic opportunity to report on the achievements of these young speakers, as well as seeing how government makes its decisions," he said.

The House of Lords event marked the official launch of Jack Petchey's "Speak Out" Challenge! 2010 and the search for next year's best young public speakers.
