Five years ago Gareth
Jenkins saw an opportunity to create a charity awareness campaign calendar
that would provide organisations with information they needed to help
promote volunteering opportunities and recruit new volunteers. Today
his highly regarded Whitbread Count Me In Calendar has been joined by the
Whitbread Citizen Calendar which is sent freely to every UK secondary
Since his first travel experience as a Gap student on a
kibbutz in Israel he has worked all over the world on a wide range of
environmental and youth projects - these include being a counsellor on US
summer camps, an environmental educator in Honduras and a conservation
volunteer leader in Australia and Greece. While in the UK he has
worked for Groundwork Trust, the National Federation of Youth Action
Agencies and run a volunteer bureau.
Despite having no formal drama teaching Gareth was
recruited by a Theatre in Education Company and spent two seasons acting
in English Language shows in schools across Europe. He is now a
regular actor with his local theatre group in North Yorkshire.
Gareth can advise on volunteer recruitment and
management, either one-to-one or with groups, particularly those with an
interest in young volunteers. By applying his volunteering
experience and his acting skills his workshops on developing interview
skills, public speaking and presentations are always fun and a great first
step to becoming a polished performer.
